Hi thereLong story short, with a quick dip into academia after my PhD, I decided to go for MC and was offered a position on graduate scheme with a big 4. With the excitment cooling down after the call, I started to 'miss' a bit the years spent in uni and wonder what I will expect from the other side of the world. Still need to confirm with the firm and sign up the contract etc, and then a big move in Sep. I know MC is something I have been keeping in my mind for some time and so glad that I make this step. Just some mixed feelings right now. Read a few other posts here about transfering between industries and consulting. To me, they are lining up in the 'real' world anyway.Any suggestions, comments, or critiques?Cheerio

Not too sure what you're asking but seems like you're having second thoughts about leaving the easy life of academia and starting a 'real' job in consulting. I'm going to be doing the same in a few months time and sometimes wonder how I'll find it. I've decided that I don't want a career in academia though (too specialised, too slow, too few permanent positions at top universities and too pointless (though this depends on your area of research)) so, given that I want to move into business, a switch to consulting seems like the best bet in terms of exposure to a number of industries, learning how businesses operate etc and using the problem solving and analytical skills I've (in theory) picked up in academia. Therefore if it turns out the work isn't as interesting as I'd hoped or the hours are long or I have to work in Scunthorpe for 6 months etc then I'll just tough it out for 2 years because consulting will open a lot of doors in the business world that were otherwise closed coming from an academic background. Not sure if that answers your question but maybe it helps.

Agree with everything you said and all the best on your new job!!I was hoping to hear some advice on what to (or not to) do in MC, especially for ppl on junior positions (and then filled most of the post with what was running in my mind, lol)PS: Accepted the offer!
