I currently work within technology for a retail bank. I have 3.5 years experience.I've recently been offered a role at Deloitte within Information & Technology Risk (Audit / Assurance). The salary is not a huge jump and so I have been hesitant to take the offer.Shall I make the move? Is it worthwhile for another name on my CV? Is Information & Technology Risk within Deloitte a prosperous team?

Why are you looking to leave the retail bank and what are you looking to get out of your career in Deloitte. When we know this we can give better advice to your questions

Want to leave the bank due to slow progression, little chances of promotion and stuck working with people I don't necessarily like. With Deloitte I am hoping to get some diversity, learn about different systems, earn better money and in the future work in senior role at a big 4 firm or maybe even industry again.

Coolie,You have just decribed the perfect reasons to leave a Retail Banking IT position for a consulting job and your level of experience is perfect for joining a consultancy. Very likely that you will achieve the majority of those goals.Make the jump.P.S Are we related? Are you part of the Hampshire Cools?

Thanks for the responses. My main concerns are job security and working excessive hours without overtime pay. Also what is Information & Technology Risk like in Deloitte? It falls within Audit but the position is a Consultant position.Mr Cool - maybe we are related....!

I don’t have an inside track on that part of DelBoys, but would think job security should not be an issue. Consultancies are currently very wary of hiring people other than for specific positions where they are confident that they can quickly get you billable.Working longer hours without overtime IS more likely than in a retail bank, but to be blunt, that’s how you get to progress your career at a consultancy faster than you generally could in a bank’s IT function.Perhaps we are! Are you incredibly attractive, intelligent and suave? It runs in the family.

joining a quasi-consulting unit withinthe audit division does bear a bit of thinking about - if your ambition is to grow within that niche then fine, but if it's variety that's an attraction of consulting, then you'd be better off joining the retail banking tech team within the main consulting division
