It's well worth doing. The process of gaining the qualification is a real eye-opener as you will work through a competency-based framework that will help you get up to the next level in consulting. You will also be led by the process by other experienced consultants and the informal learning can also be invaluable. There is still some way to go with getting employers to recognise the CMC, but many of them are now becoming accredited practices and understand the value of the CMC to an individual's personal development.

Complete waste of time. I joined many years ago, when they were giving free membership to PwC employees. The fact that no exam was involved shows you what a complete money making racket it it.I have never yet seen a client or employer request it, and its not something that I would even put on my CV.If you want to study something, why not do something with more direct application to your field of expertise, such as CIMA, CIPS, PMP, or even an MBA. Don't waste your time with this nonsense "qualification"

Just to add one further point: The CMC is overseen by the Chartered Management Institute - hardly a 'fly by night' operation.

CMI? Never heard of them. Are they some newlaboor quango? As the other contributor says above - there are far better ways to spend your training budget.

Err.. they're a Chartered professional body (i.e. with Royal assent) that has more than 86,000 members....

So what? CMC is still a joke qualification.There are over 86,000 people in the Moonies. Don't mean to say you should join 'em

Absolute waste of time and effort!!! I lived and worked in Australia and sat down and earned my certificate in Management Consultancy. At that time I had to pass a 3 hour exam plus show evidence of work outcomes. The certicate was issued through the Management Consulting Association (All these certificates are issued only through a membership based association and not an academic institution) I had my certificate for 7 years and on one ever asked me about it, it didn't increase my customer base, and never got me into special interviews. I worked in USA, UAe and UK in consutling and no one ever took notice of this certificate. I subsequently ceased to renew my membership so 'lost' my certificate which in essence means nothing as I still have the competencies. if you want to go ahead and get this certificate please be absolutely clear on why you want it.

Another vote for an absolute waste of time and money. Employers and clients both look for a track record of successful delivery and an employment history that bears out your experience.No one will buy you based on a CMC qualification, and I doubt it's even a door opener. From what I can tell, despite 'qualifying' a lot of people from the big consultancies, this qualification is mainly targetted to small consulting organisations or independent consultants.
