Hi,I graduate from med school in 2013 and am now a resident in radiation oncology in France.I already hold a master in public health focused on clinical research and statistics, but I am willing to quit medicine for consulting for sevral years and then go into biotech buiness or venture capital related to health care.I know my academic background isn't traditional but I think that it could be valuable.I am applying to the executive MSc Health economics, management and policies at the LSE but I am wondering if it's valuable for my career plan?Should I apply to a 1year MBA like INSEAD instead? or an executive MBA?I've seen on Mckinsey and BCG website that they hire MD's without MBA or MSc...Thx for your help

Advanced degree holders (MD, PhD, JD) constitute a key recruiting pool for MBB and the firms don't require additional degrees. The marginal benefit of another degree on top of an MD and an MPH in terms of landing a consulting job or practical utility on the job is close to zero. If you view consulting as your bridge to VC or more senior industry positions that you are eligible for now, apply to MBB. If you get in, try consulting. Precisely. If you have an advanced degree and are considering consulting, my advice is to apply for consulting jobs, not b-school. Advanced degree holders are attractive to consulting firms and it's reasonable to assume that an advanced degree holder who views acceptance to a good MBA program as likely would be able to interview well, sans MBA. However, the transition from medicine or academia to consulting is not for everyone. Therefore, try consulting if you get the chance and find out sooner, rather than later, if a career outside of medicine is for you.In the longer term, it's difficult to say how an additional degree at this point would impact your attractiveness to potential VC or biotech industry employers or your effectiveness is the role (whatever it might be) after a few years in consulting. To speculate: For VC, startup experience might be more important than another degree. For biotech industry, an MBA might not add substantially to your attractiveness to would-be employers if you have a few years of consulting experience and potentially made engagement manager.My two cents. [/quote]Hi BEPI'm guessing not that easy without retraining / starting at the bottom as a junior DR, but on the bright side though, think of the quality PowerPoint and Excel skills they will have learned along the way ! Consulting isn't all that bad.Armed with these new skills it would make future Patient /Doctor consultations much more informative...just think........Ok Mrs Smith my agenda for today is to take you through a 3 step process on how your'e going to die. To illustrate this I have my PowerPoint deck consisting of;-1. a change wheel demonstrating the transitional phases of the disease, 2. a roadmap of your projected decline (with embedded excel showing what functions you'll have lost by percentage and when); and finally 3. just before I rush off to my next more profitable patient, leaving you to worry about how to get yourself through this - I'll offer you a brilliant life saving idea - if you sign my extension/ccn !DC

Don't forget there would also have to be 6 other consultants in the room nodding in agreement except for one much older guy who every now and then would interrupt and completely contradict the doctor giving the patient the treatment.
