I'm currently working with a small team of MBB analysts who are preparing a budget submission. we had a conference call on Friday about lunchtime, then they worked half if Saturday and all if Sunday to do the next version. I had a barbecue and played golf, then had a look at their work this morning.Cheered me up....
Yes, but remember they get that warm fuzzy feeling when they tell their friends/boyfriend/girlfriend that they work for a tier 1 consultancy. Makes the weekend working a minor inconvenience for such a large perk.
Haha, indeed. "Yeah, I work for MBB". "MB who??"
A little while back I was at a wedding, two close friends of my girlfriend were getting married and because they were not from my circle of friends I did not know many people who were attending. As I was introducing myself to the group, a teacher (so you expect a reasonable level of intelligence) asked what I do for a living. I should point out I was not trying to pull this lady and had no real desire to impress her and I was with my partner anyway. I told her what I do for a living... "I manage x, I deliver y, I oversee z" etc... I told her the company and client I worked for, she'd heard of neither and we had roughly a 5 minute chat about work, it was very nice conversation.Later that night she introduced me to another of her friend who was interested in the sector I work in - I'm not sure why it's very boring."Hello again", she said... "This is John, I've brought him over because I thought you might be able to help him get a job". I thought to myself this is a little bit strange but let her talk anyway... "John works in Financial Services and as you're a recruitment consultant I thought you could have a chat"...So, folks, there you go. I had a 5 minute chat about what I do for a living... all this person heard was the word 'consultant' and slapped the word recruitment in front of it.How do you explain what you do to others, without sending them to sleep?
