I was conned into accpeting an offer at a level 'x' by capgemini, now I am sure that this was a super con job by them. I accepted the offer sometime back ( my fault as I did not do due diligence) and am supposed to join on Feb 15. Can I open this for renegotiation ? Is it done ?

Lucky Capgemini getting a new hire who thinks they 'conned' them because they are not happy with the offer... In what way did they 'con' you exactly? To quote Dave, be detailed and descriptive...

Simply make up your worth by stealing stationary and helping yourself to random items in the post room.Here's a fact: capgemini don't 'con' anyone into accepting a job with them. You may have undersold yourself, you may now overvalue yourself but its on you. If you try and up your package now, your brand will be in the toilet.

The way I was conned: I was told that the job level 'x' is equal to your previous company's job level, once I accepted the offer I came to know that the level I was offered was a step down, I asked them and their response was " take it or leave it"...non negotiable......I feel cheated & disgusted with myself for not DOING MY HOMEWORK and rushing into this mess !!!!! To top it all I do not have other opportunities....so have to suck this one up :-) only saving grace is that the salary is 8% higher than my previous salary..........I guess I have no option but to take it and keep sniffing around....What do you GUYS think ??

where are you moving from? CG don't tend to outpay the market, so if you're getting 8% more then you may well be moving to them from a perceived lower brand, which is why they'd not rate the grades like for like?

So Cap Gemini has agreed to pay you 8% more than you were earning, to do an easier job? That does not sound like a particularly nasty con? What exactly is your concern? You need to explain what you mean by “level”.Is the salary what they offered you?Is the role what they offered you?Will you be doing what you thought you’d be doing?Will you access the benefits you thought you’d access?

@ Mr Cool :By job level I mean the grade in which I have been hired, i.e Senior Manager, I should have been at Principal. Role, pay, benefits are all fine.

for a sr manager (or principal - as you want to see yourself), looks like you did not do a good job negotiating or ensuring that what they promised is documented and agreed... if you are in a client project, it'll probably cause an issue (both to CG and the client).. not good for a sr mgr/principal level..

SM is not a Consulting grade, is it - are you in OS or TS? CG are currently shedding about 12% of their Principals which may represent a broader reluctance to hire at that grade

Hi Trapped,OK, so you could have done a bit more homework – would it have made any difference? Not necessarily. All the fundamentals of the job meet your requirements, so really this is a question of ego (which we all have). Every time you meet a Principal you’ll feel a little twinge of frustration. Either ignore it or harness it as a motivation to get to the next promotion level and bag another pay rise when you do it.Titles are vanity, income is sanity. Don’t spoil what is a great achievement of getting a new job in hard times. Enjoy the new job

He's right.Don't get blinded by titles, they just make you vulnerable. You havent been conned, you've missed a bit of due diligence, but to be honest, in my view? If your as good as a. you think you are b. they thinky you are (they hired you, right?) then you'll soon progress.Don't sweat the small stuff, that sh*t will kill you.

Have I missed something? you have already tried to renegotiate and they weren’t interested so what is this post about?I think it would be unwise to make more of a fuss at the moment (see other posting re CG redundancies) so join with apparent enthusiasm and good graceIF it is obvious that you ARE at the wrong level and can do the job in your sleep then present them with the evidence, when you have accumulated it. If they don’t want to do anything then look around. DON'T look around until then: you won't be 100% focussed on making a good impression.CG are a reasonable firm: they are keen on a bargain so you did well to get a rise. If they brought you in at a level lower than you feel you are capable of then you obviously didn’t convince them during the recruitment process. Bear in mind they could be right!

With all the redundancies in CG, I would be in no rush to join

@Tim - well, no one else wants him, despite how brilliant he is. Also, I would never expect to hear this kind of petulant nonsense from a Principal - the guy sounds more like a C2 to be honest

@Mickey - Why do you say that ? It does happen and in a weak economy it is rampant....

I've never seen a super star made redundant and I have overseen a LOT.
