I got a job offer at Accenture but it is for a position different from what I had been interviewed for. The position is an industry expert and it is at grade m1. I never worked for a consultancy (Well I spent 3 years in IBM 10 years ago) and worked in banking all my life. The proposed pay is less than I currently get but I am so bored at my job that I am ready to be flown to moon just to escape it. Does anyone know what an industry expert does at Accenture? Also I am 42 yo an afraid that I will be too "old". Is my fear justified?I also had an interview with kong for an advisory position and waiting for feedback. Thanks

you won't want to be a 42 year old M1, well out of place...

Does it matter whether you feel out of place? This is your life.I suggest the following link for all those reactive people that care far too much about what others think.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCwt-S6bsO4

Met a chap on a train about six months ago drinking red wine straight from the bottle. Got chatting and he told a story that was almost exactly like yours (except he’d been with Accenture a year by then). He was working his notice and moving to a new job.His gripe was that he had been hired because of his experience (technical and working on client-side) and then had been sidelined because of his age and lack of consultancy experience. Had spent a year working for a series of late-twenty/early-thirty Managers who uniformly saw an "older" man as a threat or as deadwood.KPMG, EY, Deloitte, etc would be a much better bet. Would not recommend Accenture for someone in your position. Too many baby-faced first time managers with no interpersonal skills.

Thanks. That's exactly what I fear so there is a questionable reward for quite substantial riskI'm still waiting for paperwork from ACN and, unfortunately, I didn't progress to the second round with KPMG and it increasingly looks I'll have to stay put for the time being...
