SlumdogMillionaire, I have worked for both organisations and I disagree with jeez and Mr Cool. Although Deloitte is a stronger brand when it comes to consulting services (human capital, strategy/ops, etc) Capgemini has a stronger brand in the technology services space. From your post I'm guessing you are a technical consultant because I've not heard of an account / client management role in Deloitte's consulting business. I would also guess that your offer is not with the UK firm, in which case the distinctions is even less clear because in certain parts of Europe and Asia, Capgemini has a very strong brand (if it's a US based offer though, I would agree with jeez and Mr Cool).

Fair point - CG are of at least equal value if you are a technologist. I forgot there were techy geeks on this forum. That's a joke BTW.

Ultimately roles called “client manager” or “account manager” are not mainstream in consulting. Quite the reverse, so I think in Deloitte it might be something of a career dead end unless it involves at least 30% or more chargeable/delivery, but in an IT services firm it’s a kosher career option

CG has account managers, even in the CS business - there's a sales/delivery split built into the org structure which is a problematic model and causes all sorts of friction.

rc - interesting. The lack of a formal sales/delivery split in my firm is what causes problems as everyone (even the seniors) will have a little experience in sales, a little in delivery, a little in the tech etc but get their a$$ handed to them in the vendor parade by slick sales guys from the other team...at what level in capgem (MC?) do sales people get formally split off from delivery and tech?

Sounds familiar. CG sales guys have no idea what they're selling - could be vacuum cleaners, toothbrushes, outsourcing, application development. Get on with purchasing teams like a house on fire - by the time they've finished, the scope of work bears no relation to what the client manager wanted, and makes no money for CG.

So, is Cap Gemini reputable company to work for or not? Personally, I always responded to their brand name better then to Deloitte's. Maybe its just me. Are the salaries the same in these two?

brand wise I would say that Deloitte is stronger, however CG are making a concerted effort to improve their brand strength incl changes like the recent office move. within consulting salaries are similar, in fact salaries are arguably higher - at least upto the Senior Manager / Principal level

someguy - typically EC and VP level. the model is muddled - they used to be pure sales teams, but now are also measured on some billing. if you are in a delivery function you end up grovelling round (sorry, 'networking with') the account guys and when they get an RFP, they play off the delivery teams (which overlap in capability too much) against each other, doing internal deals to force the rates down.... you spend much of your life on these internal barriers rather than doing productive work...
