I was offered a position as Analyst Programmer role by Accenture however the salary package is significantlylower than my current one and my present ones. The offer is 40K, and my present base salary is 50KMy present company is a telecom giant and I have a role as a Senior Engineer. I have over 7 years of experience and an IT degree with certifications CCNA and CCNP. I really donät know how the hell they came up with that figure or what kind of valuation techniques they use ?I tried to negoatiate but the chances of matching my present salary are slim to none....I know the growth opportunities in Accenture are far more greater then present ones, but the remuneration is kinda of off.....Any advice ?

It wil prbably take you three year to get back to what you are already earning!Stay where you are with NO raise (an assumption that I hope is wrong) = 6 years times 50K = 300KGo to Acc. and earn.40K+42K+44K+48K+55+58K=£287KNot many people last more than 6 year at ACN.

Why is the thread entitled "Acceture [sic] offer accepted"?You haven't accepted. It's misleading.

I was thinking to accept the offer because of the growth opportunities, but since the salary is so crap i have to back off....what a shame....they were actually downgraded me and offered much less salary !!

You never regret turning an Accenture offer down, you'll over ever regret accepting one. They say that a year in a career with Accenture is like 2 years elsewhere - that is because you work twice the hours....

I you have accepted the offer but havent told your current employer just call ACN and tell them you don't need the job. I would give a lot for an opportunity to work as an engineer, to do real work. Many people can become a consultants. You need a degree in any subject and maybe a bit of experience pushing pencils, that's all. Some crap firms will even take you without a degree. But then you will have to compete against insecure people without real professions and expertise. This kind of "big picture guys" compete by working crazy hours and kissing a lot of a%%e. Just read some of the comments posted by the effing snakes here on this forum. They think thay they deserve their high salaries because they can "navigate through complex office politics". They don't even care that they don't contribute to society and often subtract value by doing whatever top management corporate swine want them to do to get bigger bonuses. I have infinitely more respect for engineers, doctors, biologists, and other people with real education doing real things and helping society make progress. There may be some good consultants out there, but many of them are just charlatans who deep down understand who they really are and feel insecure. You are lucky that you have a real profession and a real job. Don't throw it all away.

The threadstarter made a reference to the level of 'Analyst Programmer' which means he applied for the Solutions workforce, not the Consulting workforce within Accenture.

Ok, fair enough. I still wouln't go from industry to Accenture and take a pay cut. If you join a sweatshop like Accenture the idea is to make more money from the start and get better career options. Actually i wouldn't accept any job offer for a 20% pay cut....well ok, maybe I would do casting for a major porn studio for this kind of pay cut, but only straight porn and no perversions please.

thanks all for the replies. actually its quite hard to made any decisions at the moment, in fact they need my answer by today.......i afraid that if i said no, and i got laid off in next months or so i would real regret....but if i said Yes, the workload might killings me and so on.........the best things about my present ones are, i can come and go anytime, work from home once a week, can go on annual leave anytime and so on, very relaxing job........the disadvantage is the business is not so good at the moment.....aaaahhh, hard to decide!

Oh and I see you said you might be made redundant in a few months. That gives you a few months to find a better job than this Accenture one.

NOOOOOOO! Run run run! I'm one level below that at ACN and actively looking for an job elsewhere. Don't waste your time. Seriously. You'll be at analyst programmer for at least 2 years, you'd start soon I presume so really 2.5 years in that time if you manage to suck enough Richard and get high ratings you'll be on PERHAPS 45k by the time you're up for promotion. I can tell you hand on heart Solutions is not the way to go. I don't know where you work now but 10k pay cut cannot be worth it, no matter how much you dislike your job. If you're earning 50k why even look at 40k? As an AP in solutions you will do menial tasks, if you get on a good project maybe you'll get some minions to push around and some good exposure, most likely you'll get stuck in tech test or being bossed around by some C1 who thinks you're just "a techy" and cos you'd be new you'd take it. Don't waste your time. I promise you you will regret it. 3k after tax with your regular salary aint... well you can imagine.

I don't even know why you went through the decesion making process. This all should have been handled at the HR screening when they asked you salary expectations. Good choice though
