If you are not a graduate why would you want to know if they will contact a university directly?

Vetting checks are undertaken - as a routine - with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons - (http://www.rcvs.org.uk/)....

I see. Flexing the truth about something, hey?I don't know the answer but I expect they would be happy with you forwarding letters on to them.

Thanks for the replies. To clarify: When I said 'not graduate', I meant not joining a graduate scheme i.e. I would imagine it's more relevant to contact a uni if you have just graduated as opposed to exp hire.I am a grad for the, record. Not flexing the truth, I just want to know if I need to obtain these docs myself as I'm currently about to leave my current workplace.Chrs.

Yes - best to have them ready. Most firms now carry out checks to ensure that you have not been telling porkies.Basic Check - please bring in your own certificates on the first day at work in the new job (and you'll fail probation if you can't)Advanced Check - Carried out by a third party specialist, including Criminal record Check, Fraud check, ID and passport verification.

Cheers Mr. C.I'm guessing that was tongue in cheek "bring them in on first day"? I'm assuming I need to provide such evidence prior to them producing an offer? This is what my question centers around - the period in between you being successful at interview/AC day and them producing an offer.

A lot of places (including Deloitte I think) just ask you to bring the original certificates on the first day to avoid unnecessary trips back and forth. The employment will be conditional anyway so if there's anything amiss they can rescind it and send you on your way. They take the documents and do the checks while you're attending the usual first-day compliance and respect at work training, and before you're let loose on anything confidential.

Alas no – not entirely tongue in cheek. Many firms will undertake the advanced checks such as criminal or fraud checks before offering you a job, but it is quite common for them to ASSUME that you are not lying about qualifications on your CV and offer the job BEFORE they see the certificates. This leads to the interesting situation that you have to resign, show up at the new place and only then show them your certificates. Fine if you’ve been honest, but I do know of one occasion where a chap that was bluffing then tried to explain that he had lost his degree certificate. Alas the employer then contacted the university for the transcript and found that he had lied about the grade he had received.
