Having spent 4 years in consulting, I moved to a client 6 months ago. I'm on a decent guaranteed bonus (20%), and so reasonably happy with this. The overall package is about the same as if I had stayed in consulting (manager level big 4).However (there's always a however...), a friend of mine has been working essentially in the back office of a hedge fund for 3 years, and just got a £60k bonus. This puts his total annual earnings at well over £100k, about double what I take home.I know it "shouldn't" be all about the money, and I do enjoy aspects of my work (at times), but I'm not exactly bowled over by it all, whether in industry or consulting. Any move would therefore be completely about the money, I'm not kidding myself about that.I realise that this is completely subjective, but am seriously considering trying to get into finance/hedge funds etc. My academics should be up to it (MSc Finance) but I have worries over whether this is a career change too far, having built up a comfortable niche for myself. Any thoughts / advice?
