Hi,I understand that certain strategy consultancies have an "up or out" system. What happens to those who are counselled out? Do they just get a redundancy cheque - or do they get support from their firms in finding their next role e.g. access to the firm's alumni database etcthanks,Chris

Back in the day, there was a transition period - you were given a room, an alumni directory, a phone, and given a few weeks off "real work" to job-hunt.Nowadays, you're given the courtesy of pretending you left voluntarily, but the deal is the same as any resignation. Work your notice or get put on gardening leave - either way it's your problem.

Thats a real shame, you would thought they would do more for guys who are counselled out - after all, they could be future clients

remember i's a push exit - they may be taking the view that if they don't cut it for progression, they're unlikely to end up externally in a position to buy consultancy...

Isn't the whole "up or out" thing in violation of UK employment law? I mean, you can't just fire people because you don't think they're not good enough to do a job at a grade higher than they're currently employed. How do they persistently get away with it?

that's an interesting point actually Dave - they'd be done as compromise agreements, so the lucky winners sign away their rights... but the alternative would be 'if you don't sign we'll enter you into a performance management process', which would have to be against current responsibilities. what we need on this forum is for someone to fight it and tell us what happens ;)
