How much majority of the people on this forum intend to save before they retire?I am 34, earning £70k basic and have £70K loan on me. Own 3 bedroom house with 25% ownership. I would like to retire by 50 with a £2.5 million saving at the minimum. that's the least i expect from my life. The most i expect is £25 million by 50-55. To save £2.5 to £25 million in 15-20 years a business is on the cards which I am intending to set up in next 2 years. What are majority of the people here intend to save before they retire. As many views on this topic will be great.

Why do you want the money? Do you have a specific goal e.g. a certain lifestyle in retirement? Or is it not really about money to spend but about a measure of achievement? And why does it make any difference what other people intend to save? It is not a competition. We all have different goals and aspirations.

Why do I want £2.5 million at a minimum from my life:0.5 million for UK Home, 0.5 million for holiday home. 0.5 million for my 2 childrens. The remaining 1 million to generate a minimum income of £5000 per month in interest to live a peaceful life.if can contribute then say otherwise kindly let other people respond to what they want to achieve in their life. Since we all share management consulting background hence, I just want to see what other people aspire to achieve on their retirement.

So you plan to work hard to earn £2.5m; then retire; and eventually die with £1m tied up in property and £.5m given to your children. My plan is to inherit £.5m from my parents. Add it to my own £1m. Retire at 50. Switch to rented accommodation at 70. Spend all the money. The kids will have their own successful careers.

0.5 million for children is for giving them the best education (Harvard/LBS MBA) on this planet rather give them as a gift to spoil them. 1 million tied up in property will be for my wife "if I depart before her" or for my children once my wife and I have gone.I don't fancy spending my hard earned money in lavish lifestyle. I will be happy in a steady £5K per month until I die. Yes if sometime I want to spoil myself I can use some of the principal money from the 1 million I kept for myself/ generating interest. That's is it!!
