Hi All, career advise for a 50 year-old, lol.I want to be a 'BI Architect', and would like advice on how I get there from here (veteran Oracle/SQL DBA).I contracted as a Windows/email/database bod a decade ago (upto-IR35), and loved the life style. My favourite position was one that started as a database-developer, to migrate an access intranet to sql-server. I ran with this, and two-years-later had hand-built a datawarehouse using/learning whatever was needed (sql/dot-net/c#/owc).I'm currently a perm support-dba. Last week, we had a visit from a sharepoint-architect, and it reminded me of the wonderfulness of a) being nomadic, b) being a specialist, and c) building something beautiful. My questions then1. Is there such a job as BI architect or do I need to be a data-warehouse bod? (my happy experiences were with SQL BI and AS. I studied Microsoft's Datawarehouse offering, but found the actual product, difficult (I suspect its better now-a-days).2. How do I get round the agency question - "how long ago was your experience"? 2b. Do I need agencies?3. Perhaps, if datawarehouse building is still too scrappy, I should have a look at sharepoint?thanksrichard101

My friend is an architect, but he is straight, not bi. So I can't offer any advice I'm sorry to say.

Hi there, I think you need some design experience - including functional design - before moving to an architecture role. If your experience is mostly focused on development and support, you can try working on a data warehouse design first and then try to get more BI-related work from there. I think having a conversation with agencies will be useful to know what opportunities are there in the market.

Same as above.Used to be roles for this in the NHS but was the first bit for cuts. Capgemini used to have at least 2 trani architects - not sure if their diversity policy caters for bi architects tho'
