forget the marketing nonsense about collaboration and work-life balance; all Capgemini care about is keeping you 100% billable on any old cr*p that comes up, and making you take training in your own unpaid time - avoid like the plague

CopaCabana,As a principal (director equivalent) you can expect to earn between £100k - £140k (cash + benefits), depending on your profile. However, don't think for a minute your life will be easy. In the UK, Capgemini is a very competitive organisation and as a principal you'll be on a tight leash.Don't listen to the nonsense posted on this forum - Capgemini (like all of the large consulting firms in the UK) do some great work as well as some really marginal stuff. That's just the way the cookie crumbles, but I guess you'll know all about that if you've been at Accenture for 7 years!Good luck with the offer.

Copacabana,Are you applying to TS rather than CS?What do you refer to as Senior Manager? Managing Consultant or Exec (Principal) Consultant? Is that bonus a joining bonus? Or end of year bonus? What about benefits? I head it is normally about 19%. Is it included in your 99k? Or is it what you termed as bonus that makes the package 117K?

Ok, it is in OS you are applying. Unfortunately I am not aware of them using Snr Mgr grade. When I was there, they used grade O1 to O12 and O12 is basically VP (Parner level).Do you know where in that scale Snr Mgr falls?

When I asked the levels above me they said : Senior Manager -> Principal -> VPI told them I would fit into a Principal as I was an SM in Accenture, their response was Principal and VP levels are not being hired....How was your experience there ? Is it a good place ?

CopaCabanaI'd like to think that I'm generally an encouraging sort of person - at least on this forum, but I have to ask if you have a screw loose?By you own admission you suffered burnout in your last stint with ACN. You've 15 years experience and seven in consultancy; getting to SM in that timeframe is adequate rather than stellar. Now you're looking for a salary well above 100K and "a relatively cool life"!!Fellah, at your time of life and with your background, you need to wake up!50% of firms would not touch you with a barge pole and the other 50% will work you like a dog for a mid-point salary. That's how MC works, and with seven plus years at ACN you must know that by now.No matter what your lifestyle demands, it is your value to a firm that will determine your compensation - not your internalised aspiration. Are you sure you even want to continue in consultancy?

CopaCabana,When I worked there, I worked in CS, so I can only talk about that part.I was in the junior half of CS and I felt it was a good company to work for. Interesting projects, mostly transformational and ops strategy. The atmosphere was very relaxed, friendly and collaborative. Furthermore, Outsourcing is a big core of CapG, so I doubt you would lack for interesting work in that area. But on Top Consultant, I have seen people say it is quite different at the top half and not much different from most other consulting firms. It appears that your SM grade in OS is equivalent to a MC grade in CS, so I think that salary offer will not be far off the median in CS, so I guess it is not a bad offer for OS for that grade.

Word of cautionAs previous poster said there are 3 bits of CapgeminiCS - consulting services - TS - Technical services (including technical consulting prog leadership etc)OS - Outsourcing ServicesAs with Accenure for OS in Cap think Accenture Services as an equivalent to benchmark against not Accenture Consulting. Also think big deals at low margin for 5-10 years - you could feesibly find yourself being stuck on a long term engagement in water services or a tax office etc not the 3 weeks here then 6 mweeks there type of work - ie we all travel but if you live in SE do you really want to be mon-fri in newcastle or telford for years at a time.In terms of food chain - yes OS is roughly 40-50% of Capgemini in size but is bottom of the food chain in terms of willy wavers, typically CS have the smallest willies at the top of the food chain with TS in the middle and OS at the bottom.Berst of luck and post other questions if you want them answered

My understanding of the salary structure for CS in Cap, I would guess base salaries only goes as follows:Associate Consultant: £34K to £37K (ave 35)Consultant: £37K to £52K (ave 44)Senior Consultant: £50K to £80K (ave 60)Managing Consultant: £70K to £100K (ave 85)Principal: £95K to £140K (ave 110)The very top end for each grade are highy experienced exceptions that are hired at a grade below one they should be because they lack consulting experience skills for the upper grade. That is for CS though and base salaries only. I stand to be corrected.

The top end of the salary scale seems rather high there. Are you including the benefits (not bonus) into those calculations?

TopEnd,No, I am just specifying base salary. As I said earlier, that top end is really rare exceptions for people that can be specialists in an area but lack sufficient consulting background for the level above. That is why I also included averages to provide more clarity.I am happy to be corrected if you have any information to add.

The average reference salary amount Big Consultant has put in brackets is actually nearer the top end reference salary only amount for CS apart from the Principal level. You will then have benefits etc on top of that

the ex-Kanbay FS is a global SDU in the same way that TS, CS, OS are, so being FS & GTS rings a bit of an alarm bell. when FS was created the other SDUs were reluctant to give up the revenue so created their own little FS team that compete with it, with lots of consuequent ill-will and bad behaviour - if you're going to be in FS you want to be in the proper global FS division that owns the client relationships, not one of those...

That's rubbish - everyone gets 5 training days p.a. (and you can negotiate more - I have!). Most people do at least part of those 5 days in an awsome chateau / country park north of Paris.

'gets' yes, but they don't count as billable time, so with utilisation being the number one priority, there's indirect/'self-regulating' pressure not to use them..and there's certainly no pressure to ensure that people take up their training; professional development comes way down the priorities as most of the consulting work sold is pretty generic and anyone can have a bash at it. Also, awEsome as the chateau might be, and it is, the training there now usually involves sacrificing at least one day of your weekend...

Believe me.CapGemini is undoubtedly the worst consulting firms in the world both for the quality offered to the outside and inside. Bluffing and lying is the rule. Mobbing is the standard. The managers are very unprepared with high salaries while lower levels are underpaid and exploited to death. There is no incentive but only all possible forms of injustice against the worker. AVOID!

If it's an Accenture type company if you get your foot in the door, perform well and network then it's certainly possible to find opportunities in strategy.

Looking at CG, principal level here. A step up from the job description of my current role, but not so much of a step up from what I'm doing (I think).Assuming the comments above, from years ago, remain vaguely accurate CG is going to be quite a step up from my current salary. Partly because I'm working to a lower job title, partly because current employer is not a big payer (had other pros but these now eroding)Question is this:CG career web site asks for current and expected salary details. If I put salary expectations along these lines, am I going to get rejected out of hand because of the significant increase on current salary this represents? How would you play this?

it's normal for companies to ask this now. Just put what you think you're worth. If they don't think you're worth that then they'll say 'no, how about £x' which you can accept or negotiate as you wish (if you get an offer).
