Green dot fan prompts me to observe that, across firms in general, manager seems to be a grade that has a the most variable calibre of consultant in it.Could this be because managers are often brought in from industry with no little or consulting skills and placed in roles where a lack of these skills are most exposed? Consultants often come from analysts and are well practiced, senior consultants can get away with a bit of on the job leraning, senior managers are normally already proven...but weak managers are instantly exposed. A newly hired colleague once told me that he regretted not accepting a senior consultant position after succesfully pushing for manager.Seems he learnt the hard way.
