How is the University of Edinburgh doing in MC industry? Target, semi-target, non-target? How does it compare to LSE? Cheers. Garny

It depends on the degree. An BSc in Economics from the LSE counts a lot. On the other hand most MScs from LSE are known to be money making schemes and therefore are not highly regarded

Anon, you have no idea what you are talking about. Any degree from LSE is better then Edinburgh degree, that's for sure and as Jo said, they can't be compared. On the other hand, LSE would not be what it is if it offered MSc degrees as purely money making schemes. Leading academics and practitioners teach at various LSE programs, not just economics. Garny, why do you want to know? Are you having to make a decision which of these to study at or? My advice would be, go with LSE. Always go with LSE. :)

Thanks guys. :) I don't wish this to go in the direction of LSE v Edinburgh debate. I am very well aware of LSE's reputation, unmatched by anyone other then Oxbridge. So I don't need any convincing in that department. :) I was primarily interested in Edinburgh's reputation with top MCs and how does it compare with LSE's reputation with top MCs. I would guess that in this particular industry they don't compare but mine is a guess. Alex, yes, you are right, it is about the decision but I am mostly decided on LSE, so far. But I just wondered as I like Edinburgh also. Anyone else care to share there opinion. Thanks

Hi,I went to Edinburgh University and just thought I'd add that it stood me in very good stead (right word?) when applying for MC jobs - I have worked at some of the best MC firms in the UK..I have worked with others from LSE at those organisations, but I have also worked with people from much lesser institutions, so whilst it does have an impact, personality, attitude and ability are also very important, even at graduate level.Good luck,T

LSE is hype. Warwick, Durham, Strathclyde seen as beter schools in business. LSE is just a brand that can impress overseas students. You can bet that any degree other than economis-finance-maths is much lesser value than the other unis I have mentioned.

anon, you sound like an LSE reject! :) Believe what you want, but the fact remains that LSE is a top school/target for all major MCs and IBs, hence why they all go to LSE and hire people with various degrees prior to hiring anyone from those other places you mentioned.

If you want to know it exactly, I have graduated from Imperial college. I think IB tolerates any degree from Oxbridge only. LSE it is got to be a quant degree or you should have finished at the very top of the class from a "soft" course. As for MCs...if you mean Big 4 etc..they do not care about the degree or Uni..
