Hi all, after months of discussions with a number of Partners at KPMG, I am finally waiting on the paperwork to come through to commence the next phase of my career in Financial Services Advisory. I've been working in the industry for 8 years, specifically around Capital Markets Risk and Regulation and am very excited about the move. Whilst waiting, and pondering, there a few things that have popped in to my head that I figured you chaps may be able to sort out for me before the weekend. 1. Do Directors have staff report to them directly? Eg. Managers, Associates, etc... If not, where to these fellas live?2. Would a Director generally have an assistant? I do in my current role within a global bank and hadn't really even thought about it until now. Let's see if anything else comes to mind, time to sharpen up my PPT skills. ;)
A director with no reports? Groan.
I would expect the same, however having never worked in the industry I don't know what the organisation model generally looks like. I I see plenty of Directors in banks without staff, for instance Project Directors, relying on matrix management of other teams for delivery. Is it generally as straight forward as Associates report to Managers, report to Senior Managers, report to Directors, and to Partners?

Are these not questions which you should ask at interview stage?

You will get a PAYou won't necessarily have a specific set of staff ring fenced as your own and reporting into straight away. There has been a move to a more centralised resourcing pool so you would use resourcing managers to assign staff to work you win. Over time you will likely build up a team who work with you as a standard model and you will also end up getting a number of senior managers assigned to you for performance management.Good luck in your role

Shouldn't you have asked those questions in your interviews?!? How old are you?

You will not have staff directly reporting into you, unless you're building an offer / capability straight from joining and those reporting into you are already part of that team. Ringfencing only happens as long as you can resource them on chargeable work, if not, they'll go where the work is.You will have a PA, likely sharing with other people at your grade.
