Hi All,In past 3 years I have been doing contracting through recruitment agencies however, this time I have received an offer for a 6 month contract from a very small IT company who will depute me to a leading investment bank.Infact that IT company has not interviewed me rather Investment bank did the interview. But they told me I will not have agancy/contractor relationship with them as they are only taking a consultant from that IT company. What are the pro and cons of going through this IT company rather going through a recruitment agency? Are there any sob stories when contracting through these small IT companies?Regards

Quite common these days. Logica, capgemini, big4 and IBM all use contractors as part of on site teams. Some do this with agencies but many do it direct. The only real issue is are they creditworthy enough to pay you, or will they need to wait for the banking client t pay them before they can afford to pay you? Their payments may well be staged by project phase, but I assume you'll want to invoice monthly nd be paid promptly.

Thanks Mr. Cool!!I received another offer since my last post and this time it is from an agency. So that eliminates the need to consider the first offer from that IT services company. Moreover 2nd offer is for a Business PM (first was for IT PM), pays £50 a day more and from an agency rather IT services company. You may remember my last post when I was thinking to consider permanent roles but eventually decided to wait for another 3 months before taking permanent route. The wait finally worked for me and now "once again" I have 2 contract offers which makes me feel better :-)....last time when I was in 2 offers situation was around 9 month back!! Thanks for your ongoing support Mr. Cool. You are very good in what you do and that's makes you the most sought after person when it comes to contracting related queries "not undermining your consulting experience, you are excellent in that as well"!!Regards

HapPy to help. And to hear that it has turned out well. Now remember to start applying for other positions about 4 weeks before this new contract is up. That way you might have a dummy offer to help smooth the path to an extension with a longer duration, a bit more cash, or even just a grateful client when you 'decide' to stay. Options put you in the driving seat at renewal time, even if you want to stay
