Hi All,Recently been contacted by and offered a permanent position within a top Investment Broking company. I however only recently joined my current employer approx 5 months back. More info on why I am stuck on what to do next1. New and current role pay pretty much the same - possible bonus component with the new role which current employer does not provide2. The path ahead with my current employer does not look clear - no understanding of what my next role will/may be, no idea which corner of the UK I will be packed off to. New role is permanently based in City3. Been with my current employer for about 5 months now and leaving so soon will surely look bad - never left an employer so soon before!4. Was given a small relocation bonus when I joined current employer and will have to pay back if I leave. My biggest dilemma is if it's worth leaving a job without any/slight pay increase. The bonus component could be quite big but I dont know that now.Working in Technology in Media and will remain here for the near future but this new role opens the IT Investment broking world to me - which I feel is priceless in the long runWondering if its best to go ahead and see how it shapes? Understand if the new place may have excellent benefits/bonuses and then make a call? But sometime think I should give the benefit to my current employer as its just been 5 months...confused!!!!MU

The 5 months aspect is only relevant in that it is a “blip” on the CV. If you otherwise have not been a job hopper you should be OK although you can’t afford TWO short moves on your CV so you really need to be sure the new role is what you want to do. On that subject it seems a bit of a left field jump: are you sure that it is the career for you? How does it fit with your longer term goals? 6 months ago you were presumably happy with a career in consulting but you’ve now changed your direction…..(returning to consultancy might be difficult) . Sideways move on salary not uncommon and nothing to worry about BUT you do need to pin them down re bonus likelihood and future salary progression.
