Since Jan 2011 i secured 4 interviews ( as i am actively looking for a jo)First interview - Failed in the 2nd round-- F2F and Presentation2nd interview - Failed in the 2nd round - F2F and Presentation3rd interview - Failed in the 3rd round - 2nd F2F interview with Director of the company4th interview - Failed in the 2nd F2F interview.I have been getting through the telephone interviews and sometimes the first F2F rounds as well. Its just towards the end that i blow it.The feedback in all the interviews has been that i was very close to securing the job but someone else with more experience was selected.Your views please.

the 'more experience' line is a catch all excuse; there may be a deficiency that you need to address. across the four interviews and stages, was there a common line of questioning or type of interaction at the stage where you failed?

Actually I have no idea. I arrive in good time, I introduce myself - I even bring copies of my CV with me. I make sure I am well versed on the company and its industries. One time I did spill coffee into my lap (I mean these things can happen right?) and due to my being naked, it did hurt - but I think we got past that hurdle and the rest of the interview went very well...Literally no ideas!!

Hi Evan,Do you actually fel enthusiastic about the jobs that you are applying for and do you really want to work there? I've interviewed a lot of people and usually experience is important, but not everything - it can be overlooked if the candidate is enthusiastic and energetic - this helps with chemistry, and so my guess is that you may be unhappy with where you are, and this could be making you come across as slightly disinterested or not keen, or you're not sure about the jobs, and this will definitely show through. If you've been having a tough time at work and are feeling a bit underconfident, this will definitely have an impact. Before the next interview you need to think of all of the good things you've done and all of the reasons why you deserve the job, and go in fighting - they need you!Good luck,Trinny

Evan, what sort of level are you - are you coming out of university/MBA, or are you an experienced professional?I interview a lot of people. Generally if you're making it through to the second stage it means you've got the basic technical skillset/experience required - it tends to be the "soft" skills that people fail on at this stage. The most common issues I come across for people who fail at second round are:- not demonstrating sufficient enthusiasm/passion for the role, as Trinny suggests above;- lack of confidence and "polish" - is this really someone we want to put in front of a client?;- simply being squeezed out by another candidate who's a bit more suitable/experienced;- a feeling that someone's just not the right cultural "fit" - often hard to articulate why.I don't really buy into the fourth one - I feel that if you can't articular why someone's not right, you're simply exhibiting unconscious (or conscious) bias. But I hear it a lot from some of my co-interviewers.
