Top-Consultant's surveys of consulting recruiters have historically been a very good lead indicator of hiring activity. The hiring slowdown was predicted ahead of time, as was this year's upturn in hiring activity. We've just published the results of an interim recruiter survey we conducted at the end of August and I thought you'd be interested to see which practice areas are (and are not) going to see accelerated hiring activity for the remainder of this year. 15 minute presentation follows...Would be interested to hear comments and observations from those of you who've experienced these trends first hand...Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

Taking a different angle, is this type of content useful. Would you like to see more video / presentation content on T-C or would you rather we kept all content as text?Any steer on this - and indeed subjects you'd like to see us address - would be very helpful as we consider content options for the site. Thanks, Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

Is it possible to explain things without using Powerpoint? Thousands of consultants may disagree :)Seriously though, it works for me in the current format...and it's encouraging news

It's good, but would be even better if you made it available as a PPT download that we can skim through really fast. The commentary is handy, but only if you have the time to listen to it.The problem with these sorts of general surveys however, in my opinion, is that they are sort of useful but sadly everyone has an opinion. Kind of like so-called experts on the housing market. One says it's going up, the other says its going down. Then the next month suddenly it all reverses again. Plus, general trends are handy to know, but not much help on an individual consultant basis.I do have one suggestion for stuff that would be really useful - a section full of downloads and tools (as in templates, example documents, etc) that we can use. It would be great if we could come along and download bucketloads of powerpoints and templates on various topics. Also, a BIG list of tips for interviews and job hunting would be good.... full of really useful stuff you can actually act upon would be good!

Thanks for the feedback, really useful - in particular the content you'd like to see.Dave - we have also published a short written report and made the slide deck available for download. I didn't put these in my forum post but they're featured in this week's newsletter and can be accessed here:Consulting hiring set to accelerate during the last months of 2010Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

Best for me is a summary I can download e.g. a paragraph of bullet points rather than 25 pages of powerpoint.I don't have the patience to sit thru a video. Worst of all is powerpoint on a web clip - you cannot read the text on the charts.

As above, don't want to sit through the 15 mins. Uploading the deck as well as a pdf or something would be good.

Really appreciate your feedback - both what I've had here and what people have emailed to me direct. Seems the video is very good for some, whilst others much prefer having written docs to review. So will make sure that any additional video content is also accompanied by written alternatives.Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

Any indication what types of consulting (strategy, transformation, etc.) are seeing the improvement in hiring that you've referenced?

We do ask that question in our annual survey, but didn't in this short update survey. So don't have hard facts to share on this. However, from my conversations with firms I would flag strategy consulting as being the stand-out area growing at an exceptional rate (which is very encouraging for the continued broader recovery of the consulting sector). I know at least a couple of the top strategy firms in London who are enjoying a phenomenal rebound in client demand - and starting to see more concrete signs of them having properly turned the recruitment taps back on again.Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com
