I paid for a flight ticket with my debit card (over £1k) and the money has not been taken out of my bank account for many days now - balance & available balance the same. I have got confirmation/e-ticket. Could this be a free flight? If so, enough beer then!!!

Maybe close the account after the flight.Makes it a little more difficult for the airline to chase you - they may write it off as a bad debt!

even closing the account doesn't help. They have 6 years from the date of a charge to chase you for a debt. Might even flag it up if you do anything suspicious like close the acct - so I would just sit tight and live in fear and doubt as always...

if you really want free things, just steal money from the purses of pensioners - same moral behavior as closing your account....and the same outcome if the airline quite understandbly reports you for intention to defraud!

@Ronnie Kray - It is not my job to chase the airline to take money from my account. My card was authorised at the point of purchase. If they fail to take the money, that's their cup of tea. I am not going to close my account, but at the same time I'm not going to ask 'hey why have you not taken the money?'

Something similar happened to me but with carphone warehouse. They were billing me £5 less each month and I didnt complain as it was their fault to take less money of my account. When the time for renewal came they realised their mistake and demanded all the money from me. I refused to pay saying it wasnt my fault. They had threated me of some charges. In the end they said if you renew your contract with us we would waive of the money you didnt pay which I agreed. Any case I was going to renew with them.
