Hi All,I have been having a conversation with some colleagues about the 'pay per hour' website where people advertise jobs/tasks to be done and you 'bid/propose' to do that work for an hourly/delivery rate. As such we had a few queries I thought the forum would be able to answer...- Would a MC in a large Consulting/Services firm be allowed to do this sort of work in their own time? I'm coming from the angle of IP rules, 'unknowingly' becoming competition, etc...- Has anyone on the forum done work on this (and other similar) website? Please describe your experiences?This is just purely a coffee break conversation and something that has tweaked our curiousity. It would be interesting to know if this a popular endeavour amongst MCs?Thanks.

This will undoubedly be stipulated either in your contract or in your company policies. Typically this would be classified as concurrent employment, which - depending upon the type of work you were doing - might possibly be classed as anti-competitive. However even this is stretching the point slightly as what you do on this website is unlikely to be considered a true comeptitive threat to the activities of your current firm (especially in a large services firm). However you may also be in contravention of certain policies if you market your activities in any way under the name of your current firm (e.g. if you say I'm Joe Bloggs working for Deloitte) - which implies some sort of association which your current company would no doubt wish to make. IP rules are unlikely to apply providing you are not using any materials you have made (or have been made) in the context of your current employment.But to be honest you'd be better off putting in those hours to the development of knowledge capital for your current firm. Or, go and have a drink in the sun on a terrace somewhere with a beautiful woman (or even take your wife/girlfriend) on your arm....
