I've been trying to get into the management consulting field and have had no luck. I have even applied through employee referral programs and have not been able to secure an interview. I do have my MBA and although it may not be from an Ivy League school, the school is still recognized for being a good business school. The timing of my MBA graduation happened to fall in the spring of 2009 and one of the very few opportunities for employment was for the federal government. While I have been very happy to have food on the table and a roof over my head, the position has done little else for career development in business. I completed a Leadership Development Program in the very specialized field of government contracting. Now that the program is complete, I am eager to get out! Does any you have any suggestions for management consulting companies that are more open to experienced professionals switching industries with backgrounds such as mine? Or does anyone know of an alternative to consider? I want to move into the strategy arena and it seems that no matter what firm I look at, 3 years of management consulting is a prerequisite. Is there another way around this if I don't happen to be able to make it to a MC firm? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
