Hello,I have three years of working in FTSE 100 “soft industry” company incl. a graduate scheme. My roles were in business development, project management & procurement. Looking to move into consulting however not sure how competitive my CV will be and if it’s worth waiting a couple of years to gain deeper industry knowledge or give up the idea all together. I have a masters degree from a top French university and I am a fluent Russian speaker (not sure if they are advantages or drawbacks).I am not considering BIG3 - rather smaller Tier 2, even niche companies.Would be grateful to any feedback / any tips.

My ignorance, what's "soft industry"?The only "soft" industry I've come across is probably not what you mean...

ahhhh....you threw us with your reference to 'soft' industries. If you had said 'fluffy' then I would know exactly what you meant.I'm not sure really what your entry point would be though, you not quite ready for an experienced hire, yet probably dont want to step down to a grad scheme. Best bet would be put in another year or two in industry and try moving across as an experienced hire, perhaps into a specialist industry practice.

Agree with Mars. Go along to some of the hiring open evenings to get a feel for what target firms see as your shortfalls. Use the next few years to close those gaps, e.g formalise PM skills, avoid small projects in favour of big( just examples). Use these events to build your consulting network and in a short 18 months you might find yourself being approached.

Mars, I think it's "fluffing" which I would think would be excellent preparatory experience for joining a Big4 firm.

Thanks for your feedback guys - much appreciated.Looks like I need to brush up on my English skills as well (can you really say "fluffy industry" or there is no term really for what I mean?)
