Hi,I live in India, got an job offer in Manchester UK. They offer me a 3k pound a month.I need to know,1. Whether this salary is good to live in Manchester with family (2 adults and one kid)2. I need to save minimum 1200 pound a month after all my expenses there, is it possible?3. How much tax and other deduction will be there on every month and how much I will get in hand out of 3k.Please help me by clarifying the above points.Thanks.

So that's £36k a year. Looking at http://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/ which is normally fairly accurate that would be £2250 a month take home.Take off your £1200 savings and that leaves about £1k a month to live. Don't know the Manchester rental market but can't think you'd be spending less than £600 a month on rent for something big enough for your family which leaves about £400 for food, entertainment, bills, etc - doesn't seem like enough by the time you've paid council tax (maybe £100ish a month), energy bills (could be up to £100 a month), etc.

Lets do the numbers:3000 * 12 = 36000 YearlyTake home = £2250 (after tax/NI)Saving's target = £1200 (I don't think so this is possible) Budget = £1050============================================(costs are per month)House rental = £650 - £850 (Assuming you will not share a house - with family that's not really an option anyhow)Council - £100Water/Gas/Electric - £140-£180 (Depends on season and type of accommodation - small flats or semi-detached 3 bed house)Other bills (tv/internet/phone) - £35So far = £1035This does not include food, car and related expenses (insurance, petrol, maintenance), Entertainment, Going-out, other bills, child-care and related costs etcYou are easily looking at £550 (family of 3) for all expect child care (no idea, on exact numbers, it is expensive)Total spend = £1585You can expect to save around £400-500 a month. (factoring cost of child care)Of course, variable costs depend on lifestyle (breakdown assumes median - by my personal perspective).Hope it helpsZp.s: Lived in Manchester

Let's say you get 2200 net a month. You want to save 1200. So, you have 1000 to play with.Very difficult to live on this, for a family of three that is. If your wife doesn't work, then no child-care costs I guess (can easily come to 700 a month), but still a challenge. The main items:-rent-council tax-gas & electricity-food shopping (bearing in mind that the UK will have significant food inflation in 2013 given the very wet 2012)-petrol/transportYou can peruse Rightmove.co.uk to see what the rent in Manchester is like. The country average is about £700 I think. Let's say 100 for council tax. 150 for gas/electricity/water. 400 for food (100 a week). 250 for petrol/transport (60 a week for a full tank for a small car). Assume missus not working, so no child-care.That comes to 1600 a month. So, you might be able to save about 500 a month.

[quote]Hi,I live in India, got an job offer in Manchester UK. This means you must be having a very niche skill. You should think about re-negotiating your offer. (Increase to at least 45K to meet your savings target)

[i]"stating that they were NOT able to find ANYONE in EU to do the advertised job. It depends where in Manchester you want to live. I am moving up there with my wife also for work. There are good parts and bad parts just like any city.If you want to live somewhere nice then you are going to pay a premium. A nice 3 bed house in somewhere like Didsbury or Chorlton will easily set you back about £1000 a month in rent alone and then you have utility bills on top.
