I'm contemplating moving into consultancy and would be interested to hear thoughts on my profile and whether it sounds feasible.I've been working now for 6 years in a global financial services company as a chartered company secretary. It's a broad role and required me to qualify in disciplines such as financial management and accounting but the job itself has a heavy focus on corporate law and corporate governance/regulation. I've been exposed to a number of different business areas - insurance, private equity, private banking for example although in more of a support/advisory capacity than in a commercial/business capacity. As I have moved up I have had significant line management responsibility and autonomy in my work and have been involved in some major transactions and overseen some big projects.I essentially do quite a technical job (bit like a lawyer/accountant) and I am at a point where I ought to be going career and actually the money is starting to get pretty good. But I feel like now is an appropriate juncture to broaden my experience out a bit (professionally and personally). I think consultancy would be good for me and my CV and I could handle the workload (30yrs old, no wife and kids at the mo). And I think also I've got to the point where I do have some specialist and technical knowledge and experience that I can leverage to add value to projects. My academic background isn't really MBB territory but that's fine as my preference would be to move to a small consultancy having worked in large corporate for so long. With apologies for the length of this post, the question is, does that sound vaguely like the profile that would get me an interview or am I dreaming?
