AllI have some experience in MC and thought to know the market quite well. I was surprised when a recent MBA graduate friend of mine introduced me to a consultant from Porsche Consulting (http://www.porscheconsulting.com/pco/en/) which I had never heard of.Apparently they even give you a 911 after your probation period.... Does anyone know anything about them? Apart from the website, I have no source of information and would appreciate any insight you could give me.Thanks in advanceSuperman

I dont even need to look at the website. The notion that some firm is called Porche Consulting and simply gives you the car after your probation period reeks of BS. If it looks too good to be true...

Porsche Consulting is legit (don't know about the free car though). It is a commercial spin-off of the inhouse consulting dept. that turned Porsche around when they were really close to bankruptcy in the early 90s..Alex

You do get a car, its normal in automotive industry to roll out your fleet to the employees, every one does it. The manufacturer makes more money selling them second hand than selling them new. But its not the free car that I wonder about - a normal senior manager can lease a Porsche with a good car allowance too, so its not all that. Its the brand - who are they, what do they do, why does no one know them?And... Porsche is a hedge fund, NOT a car maker.

Over here in mainland Europe they are a familiar name in the product innovation & manufacturing environment. From what I gather they focus on lean management and include a complementary tour of their exceptionally optimized manufacturing facility as one of the inspiration programs for senior management during their engagement. I would thus say that their scope differs somewhat from what is typically discussed on this forum (MBB, Big4, exit ops to PE etc.). However, given my technical background and fascination with product mfg, I would be more than happy to work for them (and get that car of course.. Gr, Alex

If the company’s real and if they’re still owned by Porsche then it’s entirely possible. A friend used to work in IT for Porsche themselves (at manager level) and used to get a brand new Porsche every few months. Apparently people would often be asked if they wanted to take a new car home for the weekend to “put some miles on it.” He said that they knew what they’re doing and used it as a tool for attracting & keeping staff. He’s a bit of a petrolhead and said that the idea of losing the perk made it much harder for him to leave the company. I guess they probably makes-up for it in other ways.

I think we are missing the point here: of course it is real but is it the right move? Or perhaps that wasn’t the question! With that in mind it is easier to see the pros and cons. As someone who might be looking at a CV in future irrespective of the merits of the firm and the work I would see it as an unknown consulting brand, consulting that is probably product led (i.e. a bit like someone trying to convince me that working for an IT hardware co or telco was “proper” management consulting), perception of a very narrow sector focus (luxury automotive), no real footprint in UK. Also the English version of the website could be charitably described as very lean (and uncharitably as rubbish) which might say something about the profile of consulting and/or profile of UK in the company.I can’t think of any pros apart from the car and that’s debatable

A correction for Alex. It was external consultancy that helped get Porsche out of the mire in the early 1990s when the custom pimps and drug dealers was just about all that kept them going. ( I say helped, because there needs to be an attractive product in the first place)Having learned from outsiders (self included) they realised there was money in consulting, and like many other automotive companies developed an internal cadre of 'improvers'. I didn't realise they'd since started selling that externally. Unipart did pretty much the same at the same time.

Not sure how constructive a comment that is - I was trying to be helpful to those interested. But yes, I do trade in my SUV rental at DFW tomorrow evening and return to Stuttgart to something different, albeit higher gas prices.Funnily enough QF had its inaugural flight from SYD to DFW while I was here. Too bad one of the engines didn't conk out on the way so as to let that blessed event make the cover of the Dallas Star.Alex

Hey there Gweilo82 (and others),I stumbled upon your forum entry and I'm quite happy to learn that there are 'expats' in Porsche Consulting (PC).I have an been invited for an interview with PC in January 2014 for the management consulting position with a focus on mechanical engineering.I was wondering if you could give me some tips regarding:1. The case interview: What should I expect to be different from a strategy consulting firm? How would you advise preparing for it? I have already started reading the lean thinking classic by Womack and Jones.2. Being non-German: what level of German language skills would they require, etc. Thanks a ton in advance for your answer (I hope you are still active on this forum!) or for anyone else's!

Had my interview last week and I'm into the next round. The interview was in German. The consultants were really friendly. The case they cave was quite similar to what one might see in the book Lean Thinking.

Hi everyone, while not having worked for that company I can hopefully add a few more rumours to that discussion:a) Porsche Consulting is a well known Consultancy in Germany and they are quite strong in the automotive sector. b) They are primarily known for lean implementation in various forms, although they also do other stuff.c) They typically hire a considerable amount of industry experts, although I've heart that the pay is surprisingly low for that (again these are rumours).d) Yes, you can of course have a Porsche if you work for Porsche Consulting, just like every other employee of Porsche. :-) But in reality this simply means that you are eligible for an "employee lease" program ... which *still* makes it very expensive to buy a Porsche. Therefore, the majority settles for another brand from the VW empire. ;-)Good luck to everyone!Reab

Had the second interview last week with the partner and principal. I liked the interview. It was more of a 'fit' interview. No case. The HR guy from the first interview told me that they would ask a case in the second interview only if the interviewers were unsure. So I guess that was a good thing that they didn't ask me a case. They said they would get back to me by today but they haven't. Don't know what to make of it. Fingers crossed!
