I am lucky enough to have received an offer from Deloitte as a mgr in their financial advisory practice. I come from an industry background with experience in top-tier blue chips as well as a private equity FD role. I feel I have been recruited for my contact list in the industry as well as the breadth of my blue-chip/private equity experience. My questions are three-fold and quite broad:Type of work: will the work be interesting/strategic or am I likely to be placed into unglamourous roles with clients that established consultants are less interested in? Also will the work be strategic/commercial or will I be placed on a series of "cost reduction"/"cost to serve" projects. My fear is that I may go from a role where I have commercial/strategic overview to one where I am more specialised and potentially take a slight backward step in the type of work that I do. This may be an unfounded fear but thought I'd put it out there. On a positive note the work has the potential to be very strategic (CFO engagement, TOP, country entry etc) just wanted to get some opinions from people who are established in the industry?Career path: there is obviously moving up within the firm which I clearly will be aiming for. What do people do once they reach SM/Director level, what sort of roles do they move to both internally and externally, is there flexibility?Networking: how difficult is it to network within firms and get onto the type of projects that one would like to work on? Would I be at a significant disadvantage being from industry? Is being "on the bench" a rational fear and one I should be worried about?I appreciate there's a lot in this post, feel free to reply to the bits that are of interest. Thanks in advance.
