After an interview, How many of you send a 'Thank you email'? Does it make any difference? I personally think it all sounds a bit desperate but I would like to know what other people do..Also I would like to know the opinion of recruitment consultants if someone sends a 'thankyou' email. Dont mean to sound sexist, but i think women appreciate this a bit more..Thanks

Desperate? Not at all. But save them for when you actually do need/want to say thank you. A thank you mail to a recruiter who has introduced you to a great role, to an interviewer with whom you had good rapport etc is both welcome and unexpected. I had one recently in which I was thanked for knowing my client so well and for making the right introduction. It put a smile on my face all afternoon. Nothing desperate in good manners.

I am assuming you mean a thank you to an employer post interview? In honesty I don’t think it makes a difference but can certainly do no harm! Won’t come across as desperate if succinct and correctly worded.

Would disagree. It comes across as creepy and needy.

My wife was interviewing recently and a candidate brought a box of Quality Street for the panel.Don't do that.

I got a hand-written letter from a very good candidate that I interviewed recently. Unfortunately it was to tell me that he'd decided to take a job with one of our competitors, but it did make a good impression.

@Ex-expat Sounds like he was gloating..Jury is still out on this one...i guess it would depend on how much you want the job and how much rapport you have built up with the potential employer.
