Hi,I am currently trying to break into consultancy from a ten year career in IT Services, although the interviews are coming through I want to do anything that can increase my chances to get an offer. I have heard that the IBC (Institute of Business Consulting) does certification, does anyone have any opinion on the value these carry? There is one like the Certificate in Management Consulting Essentials that is entry point certificate.

Carries no weight whatsoever - there really isn't a credible MC certification, if anything these things can be see as negative / sign of naivety

As a recruiter I would completely disregard that certificate and look at the work you have done and where you have done it.I would look for career progression and obvious commercial ability and if you have a decent academic record, that won't hurt. Please don't waste your money and time.

Thanks, its more or less what I expected to hear but I thought I ought to get some opinions before I completely dismissed it as an idea. By the way do you have any contact details I could forward my details onto (as a recruiter)?

You could look through which recruiters are hiring on the "Career Opportunities" page of this site, or look up the latest list of top-rated MC recruiters (within a report from Top-Consultant). That said, you're better to find jobs you're interested in/qualified for and apply to them, regardless of who the recruiter is - recruiters work for the employer, and don't pay much heed to speculative CVs. You're only likely to get yourself put on some generic mailing lists.
